Before you can build...

You need a solid foudation

You are a trusted member of your community, a front-line health worker that understands the language, experience, and culture of the people you serve. Hopefully you have a deep knowledge of the resources, relationships, and needs of your community members, but do you understand public health concepts? Are you prepared to address the social factors that hinder health? Can you navigate complex healthcare systems to improve access to care? If not, no worries. You have come to the right place.

By the end of this course, learners will be able to:

1- Define community health working, identify where CHWs work, the populations they serve, and the health issues they address

2-Define public health and explain how the field of public health is different from the field of medicine

3-Identify health care programs, insurance coverage, and other resources that serve low-income clients

4-Become a more knowledgeable resource for the clients and communities you serve

I can't believe we are still fighting for equalization of the social determinants of health in 2020... This portion of the class hits a nerve for me. We should be further along in our fight in this era. To be reminded of all the inequities hurts my heart. however, we are a strong group and we will find justice. This module just hits home.
